What Is a Sibling Doula?
This is a big transition for everyone. You’re focused on your birth plan and labour, but you’re also worried, “Who will care for my child when I go to the hospital?” or “Will they feel scared or left out?”
That’s where we come in.
A sibling doula is a specialist—part expert childminder, part emotional guide—who focuses 100% on your older children during your labour and birth. This is not just a babysitter. A sibling doula is a trained professional who helps your child:
- Understand Birth: We use age-appropriate education to explain what’s happening, so they feel involved, not scared.
- Feel Supported 24/7: We provide on-call childcare the moment you need it, day or night.
- Have a Positive Experience: We handle the logistics, the feelings, and the fun, so their only job is to be an excited big brother or sister.
- Promote Family Bonding: We help facilitate that all-important first meeting with the new baby to encourage a positive, loving start and reduce sibling rivalry before it begins.
Sibling Doula Care
Flat package $800 total
Give your older children the comfort of a familiar, nurturing caregiver while you focus on welcoming your new baby. This service provides calm, grounded, child-centred support that keeps routines steady and helps your children feel safe, connected, and cared for. Your doula offers stability and reassurance during one of your family’s biggest transitions, ensuring your children experience the birth day with confidence and ease.
What's Included:
Two meet‑and‑greets (2 hours each) between weeks 34–37, held in your home with your child present for up to two older children. This allows your doula to get to know your child, your routines, and your space, so care feels seamless when labour begins.
On-call availability (38–42 weeks), up to 16 hours of care during labour
Additional hours billed $45/hr (overtime)
Doula Duties Include
- Stay with your children in your home throughout labour.
- Engage them in play, stories, and familiar, comforting routines.
- Prepare simple meals and snacks.
- Support bedtime and/or morning routines as needed.
- Offer gentle emotional support and reassurance.
- Provide age‑appropriate explanations about what’s happening.
- Facilitate sibling introductions if desired.
- Remain present for the full duration of labour, including long or overnight births.
Optional Add-Ons
Additional child fee: +$5/hr per extra child
Overnight Sibling Doula Care
Flat package $400 total
Provide steady, nurturing support for your older child(ren) while you rest, recover, or focus on your newborn. Care is tailored to your child’s rhythms, personality, and comfort needs, ensuring they feel secure and supported throughout the night. This service centres the older child—maintaining routines, responding to wake‑ups, and offering calm emotional reassurance.
*Newborn care is not included in this service but can be added upon request at an adjusted rate.
What's Included:
One full night of in‑home support for up to two older children.
10 hours of care, with your choice of:
Option A: 8:00 pm – 6:00 am
Option B: 10:00 pm – 8:00 am.
Booking required at least 72 hours in advance(subject to availability). Travel within the standard service area is included. For locations outside this area or late-night transportation needs, a travel fee or rideshare reimbursement may apply
Additional hours billed $45/hr (overtime)
Doula Duties Include
- Focused on the older child(ren), handling bedtime routines, nighttime wake‑ups, and comfort needs.
- Maintaining familiar routines and emotional stability.
Doula Duties Not Include
- Act as a newborn night nurse
- Responsible for newborn feeds, diapering, ormonitoring
Optional Add-Ons
- Additional child fee: +$5/hr per extra child
- Hybrid care for newborn: +$10/hr

Our Simple 3-Step Process
We make this the easiest part of your birth plan. Our brand personality is all about calm, expert, friendly support.
- Meet & Greet: It starts with a free, no-pressure consultation. One free half-hour call with parents to meet each other and see if we are a match before purchasing is included in every package.
- Prep & Plan: We have 2 “get to know you” visits with your child before the birth. We play, read books about the new baby, and build a bond of trust.
- When it’s time for you to go to the hospital, you call us. That’s it!
Your Sibling Support Questions, Answered
Should siblings be present during birth?
This is 100% your choice, and we support it either way! Our job is to help you follow your birth plan. If you want them present, we help make it a positive, prepared experience. If you prefer they stay at home or in the waiting room, we make that a fun, safe, and comforting time.
How much does a sibling doula cost in Canada?
Costs vary, but The Mom Loft is committed to transparent pricing. Our custom Sibling Support packages are based on your family's unique needs, often starting from our affordable $40/hour rate for postpartum care. We offer a free virtual consultation to create a custom package that fits your budget.
What happens if the doula cannot make it to your house when you are in labour
In the unlikely event that your doula is unavailable when labour begins, a pre-arranged, qualifiedbackup caregiver will be offered
Can you also help with the newborn?
Our overnight care focuses on your older child so you can fully attend your baby.
Can you help me with my older kids during the night as well as with my newborn, so I can get some sleep if they wake up?
Overnight care is centred on your newborn so you can get restorative sleep. If you’re looking for support with older children as well, we can absolutely discuss a customized arrangement or additional support to make sure everyone’s needs are safely met.
What if we are not a good match with our Doula?
We want you to feel completely comfortable and supported. Before booking, we offer a complimentary video consultation so we can get to know each other and ensure it feels like the right fit for your family. If at any point you feel the match isn’t quite right, we can arrange for a backup doula to step in, so you continue to receive consistent, high-quality care.
